Beekeeping Diary

Welcome to Marguste Mesila's Beekeeping Diary!

Here we share the daily activities, joys, and lessons learned at our small apiary. We write about caring for our bee colonies, seasonal beekeeping tasks, and the development of our apiary.

Our beekeeping journey is just beginning, and we learn something new every day. We invite you to follow along and be part of our journey!

October 2026 – Preparing Bee Colonies for Winter

  1. The autumn of 2026 has been a busy and educational time at Marguste Mesila. We are preparing our two bee colonies for their first winter in our apiary.

Our apiary has two beehives, which we call the green hive and the red hive. Each bee colony has its own character and needs.

Green Hive

Autumn feeding of the bee colony in the green hive has required extra attention. We have monitored how the bees take up their winter feed and provided additional feed when needed.

Red Hive

The bee colony in the red hive is strong and quite temperamental. During the autumn inspection, there were ten frames of capped honey in the hive. We have also provided the colony with additional feed.

Preparing for Winter

During autumn, we have been feeding our bee colonies and treating them against Varroa mites. We plan to install mouse guards at the hive entrances and check that the hives are properly prepared for winter.

Beekeeping is a continuous learning experience for us. Every bee colony teaches us something new, and we want to share our experiences with other beekeeping enthusiasts.

We hope that both bee colonies will survive the winter successfully and that we can start a new beekeeping season with them in the spring!

How Was the MTÜ Marguste Mesila Brand Created?

The creation of the MTÜ Marguste Mesila brand began with a desire to give our small apiary its own identity. We wanted our logo and honey jar labels to reflect our love for bees, nature, and our home.

The design focused on a honey jar, honeycombs, flowers, and warm honey-yellow tones. Our home village of Pärnjõe also played an important role in shaping our brand.

Many linden trees grow in Pärnjõe, making them an important symbol of our home and its surroundings. That is why we wanted to include linden trees in our design, creating a connection with the nature of Pärnjõe.

This is how the visual identity of MTÜ Marguste Mesila and the “Pärnjõe Honey” label for our honey were created.

When the first honey jars received their labels, we were overjoyed. The simple honey jars had become products that carried the name and story of our apiary.

For us, this is not just a logo or a label. It is part of our apiary's story, and we hope to add many new chapters to it over the years.

Honey Jars Before and After Labeling

Honey Jars Before and After Labeling

At first, we simply had jars filled with honey. Then we created the “Pärnjõe Honey” labels, combining honey, honeycombs, flowers, and the nature of our home village in their design. Kopeeri

Once we attached the labels to the jars, their appearance changed completely. Now they carry the name of Marguste Mesila and the story of our small apiary.
